IMM COLOGNE 2016
Das Haus – Interiors on Stage by Sebastian Herkner.
Das Haus – Interiors on Stage as trend-setting platform at the international furniture fair imm Cologne offers designers and architects creative space for realizing their vision of modern living.
Designer Sebastian Herkner has realized his interpretation of an open house without rigid walls at imm Cologne 2016 by using textile components, which equally provide permeability, openness and sensuality. His team was searching for interesting, special fabrics that give “the house” a multifacetted and unique haptic quality. Using our articles Ray CS, Onno and Lou, which are the results of a textile interpretation of conventional building materials of grid, corrugated iron and perforated elements in a previous collaboration with Sebastian Herkner, walls became movable and room dividers materially.
“Traditionally nya nordiska maintains a link between textile and architecture in their collections as well as in the design of the headquarters building.” (Sebastian Herkner)
Flowing curtains made of Solo CS in three different colours, Linum CS and Calma CS form the basis of the onion-like wall structure of the overall circular architecture, which, in combination with Rubino 2.0, create a cosy and impressive atmosphere.
Calma CS combines feather-light transparency with sound-absorption in accordance with UNI EN ISO 11654. The visual permeability belies the drapery fabric’s great functionality: thanks to the ingenious weave design of its continuous ribbon yarn Calma CS achieves an Alpha value of 0.6 thereby boasting 60% absorption of sound waves. This made-up drapery featuring nya nordiska’s wave band, a 6 cm glider distance and a 250% fabric allowance guarantees optimum room acoustics. At the same time, the fabric is flame-retardant in accordance with DIN 4102-B1 making it ideal for use in the public premises segment. The four colour shades ivory, champagne, silver and anthracite are enhanced with a slight shimmering effect.
Linum CS is a versatile basic with a linen look, the colour hues are tailored to classical linen hues. The semi-transparent decoration fabric made of 100% Trevira CS owes its natural fabric character to the dry feel, the natural colours and the soft drape. The fabric, which is suited for contract use, is double width, washable and railroaded.
As a modern polka dot fabric in strict graphic arrangement Lou toys with contrasts between transparency and opacity: the polka dot spaces are cut out of the ultra-light polyamide base fabric using laser technology. A polyurethane coating fixes the edges permanently. As a drapery fabric Lou provides privacy while still being permeable to light.
Ray CS is a textile mesh of a quality suitable for use in public premises. Overlaying the fabric creates exciting graphic patterns and shadows that give it a three-dimensional effect. Available in colours like white, grey and anthrazite the meshing can also be used in a layered look with other fabric creations and is also suitable for room height applications thanks to its double width.
14 selected colours now extend the range of versatile cotton velours to 30 topical tones. Here with Rubino 2.0 – the name says it all – as red tones like burgundy, ruby or fire are now gaining importance again in interior design. Complemented by fresh nuances from the blue-green scale, discreet natural tones and elegant non-colours this 140 cm wide drapery and upholstery fabric can be used universally. Its combination of soft, velvety feel and everyday durability qualifies it for numerous design situations: solo, in an exciting mix & match with patterned fabrics from the collection or in a velvety interplay with Cord 2.0.
Solo CS convinces as a universally applicable basic. The chintz-covered semi-transparent fabric made of Trevira CS in cotton appearance combines natural feel with washing resistance. Thanks to its double width, the fabric is suited for contract use, is railroaded and thus meets all requirements of the hotel industry. Solo CS is offered in eight near-nature colour choices.
